Warped Tour 2010!
...WARPED.
!Forget Christmas, forget Halloween…my favorite holiday is definitely Warped Tour Day. Where else can you hear a bunch of your favorite bands play, be outside, and go crazy without getting judged(or less judged, at least)? That’s right, Warped pretty much just kicks ass. So for my first post on this blog, I thought I would go ahead and give you a little review of the bands that I saw play this year, and give you a chance to live vicariously through me in case you missed it this year.
First of all I wanted to address all of you out there who skip out on Warped because it’s so expensive. Well kids I feel your pain. But the good news is it’s SUPER easy to get in for free, and to get VIP passes as well! There are lots of ways to get VIP: online (www.warpedtour.com, www.warpedreporters.com) , show up early, go up to the gates, and ask what you can do to help (they always need lots of people to help promote bands, help serve food, and stuff bags), and you can even donate blood and report to the Music Saves Lives tent at Warped. So you guys have no excuse not to go! =P
So now on to the good stuff: the bands. Although I saw more bands than this, I just wanted to review my favorites of the day. =]
First band: Bring Me The Horizon. It took me quite a while to get into this band (I think for obvious reasons) but now they are one of my all time favorites. Every time I’ve seen them live, they have put on an explosive set. Because of my VIP pass, I was able to watch them perform from stage. Even though it was a really cool opportunity, after about 2 songs I realized that I would be having a lot more fun watching them from the pit: and I was definitely right. The crowd is just as interesting to watch as the band itself. One of the factors that makes Bring Me The Horizon such an excellent live band is the catchy chants that they throw into their songs, which is an opportunity for a lot of crowd participation. Even if you don’t like this type of music, just give it a listen. I think it will give you a pretty good idea of how intense the set was.
On to the next one: Pierce the Veil. These guys are amazing, end of story. One of my favorite bands to listen to as well as watch live. One thing I really love about these guys is how distinct their sound is, especially frontman Vic Fuentes’ voice. They always put an on a very entertaining set, and cover a new song each tour which is always a crowd pleaser. Although I think these guys are pretty underrated, they are slowly gaining more and more recognition for their hard work. Having had a few conversations with Vic about his music and life, it really puts into perspective how hard he and the band has worked to get where they are today. I picked this song because I feel like it really shows off Vic’s powerful and melodic voice, as well as the bands talent and variety. They also just released a new album entitled Selfish Machines, so make sure you check that out as well! (also, I was really sad that it wouldn't let me embed the music video, its a winner! So make sure you go check it out yourself.)
Next band: The Dillinger Escape Plan. I knew this was going to be a really cool set to watch, but I definitely wasn’t expecting to be as entranced as I was by their extreme energy and showmanship. I started listening to these guys because they are one of my boyfriend’s favorite bands and biggest inspiration for his own band. This band is IMMENSELY talented. I was completely blown away by their performance. I liked them before I saw their set, but it wasn’t until after I saw them live that I became a true fan. They are truly phenomenal musicians and I would say are definitely the most talented on the entire tour this year. The song I chose is the one that first got me hooked on the band, I think mainly because the lyrics are just so damn catchy. Make sure you listen to this song all the way through, and check out their other stuff as well, they definitely have written something for everyone.
Next band: Breathe Carolina. Now let’s face it: they aren’t very talented musicians. But they make up for their semi-lousy talent with catchy crowd pleasing songs. Hey, at least they are trying to be different. And even though the screams are too dry and they seemingly half ass all of their songs, I still seem to enjoy listening to them. I think it just comes down to the fact that at every Breathe Carolina set you are guaranteed to get a good dance party in, which is essential to my daily life. And I also give them credit for their second album, because they improved soooo much. So here’s my favorite song by them from their second album, Hello Fascination.
To cap off the epic day, I saw a band that I have been embarrassingly a fan of for the past year or so: Nevershoutnever. I love the simplicity of Christopher Drew’s songs. His stuff isn’t very complex or different, but I find it comforting and refreshing to just go back to the basics and listen to a kid with a pretty voice, a ukulele, and simple lyrics. I will say although his set was almost to cheesy to bear, I still thoroughly enjoyed myself when he played his older stuff. I don’t necessarily feel the need to see him live again (unless by some miracle all the obsessed 14 year old girls decide not to show up) but I will definitely keep on listening to his first couple albums with a smile on my face. I picked this song for you guys because not only is it cute and catchy, it’s my favorite one to sing. =]

Summer (So Far) Playlist
I just discovered that I can create widgets from my grooveshark playlist and place them here on my blog! I am very excited because now I do not have to play the You Tube game! I may still post videos now and then, but only the cool ones! If I were you I would just push play on the playlist right away, I wrote so much this time! I think I am making up for not posting in over a month!
My disclaimer on this one is that it is rather eclectic so if you don't like a song you hear just skip it because the next one could quite possibly sound completely different.
I chose songs that I have been listening to A LOT or that I just love for different reasons. I am all about lyrics and I have had to make some difficult decisions this summer. I am moving home with my parents for a bit, I am excited but the decision took a lot of thought. These songs reflect that in some ways. I also have been digging ones that make me want to dance.
Enjoy,
Reyne
So you may need to give the playlist a minute to load, I have found that it can be a bit slow. Hope you are able to hear it ok!
Summer Summer by The Almost
One of my favorite bands of all time is Underoath. They are what many people would label as Emo Screamo so I know that aren't for everyone. I let myself get stressed very easily so they are great for just letting that out. I feel like I can channel my emotion through the music I am listening to. Anyways The Almost is a side project of Aaron's who just recently left the band, he was their drummer for quite a few years. I saw them about 5 years ago and I got a small crush on Aaron, I enjoy everything he has a hand in musically.
This song is very summery, I love the lyrics.
Little Secrets by Passion Pit
These guys rock my world! I was listening to their album "Manners" and it is great. This song make me wanna dance or go for a bike ride: both very good things!
In My Veins by Andrew Belle
Beautiful. Constantly on repeat! I just relax to this song.
LYRICS:
Nothing goes as planned
Everything will break
People say goodbye
In their own special way
All that you can rely on
And all that you could fake
Will leave you in the morning
Come find you in the day
Oh, you’re in my veins, and I cannot get you out
Oh, you’re all I taste, at night inside of my mouth
Oh, you run away, cause I am not what you found
Oh, you’re in my veins, and I cannot get you out
Everything will change
Nothing stays the same
Nobody is perfect
Oh, but everyone is to blame
All that you rely on
And all that you can save
Will leave you in the morning
Will find you in the day
Oh, you’re in my veins, and I cannot get you out
Oh, you’re all I taste, at night inside of my mouth
Oh, you run away, cause I am not what you found
Oh, you’re in my veins, and I cannot get you out
No I cannot get you out
No I cannot get you out
Oh no, I cannot get you out
No I cannot get you out
Everything is dark
It’s more than you could take
But you catch a glimpse of sunlight
Shining
Shining down on your face
Your face
On your face
Ocean Night Song by Laura Veirs
I adore her. I listened to this one on the plane home from a weeklong trip, it was bittersweet. I want to be on the beach, too bad Idaho is landlocked!
Monster by Lady GaGa
Love or hate her....this song is so amazing. It is dedicated to Nathan, we listened to this song NONSTOP while were on our many adventures in CO. I miss you!
This song will forever be one of my theme songs to this summer. =)
My Love by Sia
It may be on the Eclipse soundtrack but I really enjoy the feeling of this song. It's gorgeous.
Hills and Valleys by The Rocket Summer
I have revisited my love for The Rocket Summer this Summer! =) This guy rocks and I love how uplifting his lyrics are. I just got his most recent album: "Of Men and Angels", it is sooooo good! I put him on all of my running playlists, very upbeat it gets me pumped to run.
Alaska by Sky Sailing
This one is for the Owl City fans! Adam Young is Owl City, and I guess he made some tunes before that. He gave himself the name Sky Sailing at that time. He just released an album, "An Airplane Carried Me to Bed", its amazing! He has more acoustic guitar on this compared to Owl City, but it still feels like Adam Young, it will just make you happy.
Leap Year by Maria Taylor
I discovered this while listening to Pandora, I am in LOVE with her voice. This song is gorgeous.
Some Crap About the Furniture by PlayRadioPlay!
Listen to his album, "Texas", I love almost every song on it.
Sweet Disposition by The Temper Trap
This song is in 500 Days of Summer, I love it! Its a good driving song, and their album, "Conditions", its definitely worth listening to!
Diamonds by Breathe Carolina
I don't know why, I am in love with this song! The first time I heard it I put it on repeat for at least 5 times in a row. It's a guilty pleasure I guess. =)
Boys (Lesson One) by Jars of Clay
Quite a few Jars of Clay songs have given me peace over the years. This one is from one of their latest albums THE LONG FALL BACK TO EARTH. The lyrics resonate with me, they are so true to my life!
LYRICS:
Lesson one - do not hide
Lesson two - there are right ways to fight
And if you have questions
We can talk through the night
So you know who you are
And you know what you want
I've been where you're going
And it's not that far
it's too far to walk
But you don't have to run
you'll get there in time
Lesson three - you're not alone
Not since I saw you start breathing on your own
You can leave, you can run, this
will still be your home
So you know who you are
And you know what you want
I've been where you're going
And it's not that far
it's too far to walk
But you don't have to run
you'll get there in time
Get there in time
In time, to wonder where the days have gone
In time, to be old enough to
wish that you were young
When good things are unraveling,
bad things come undone
You weather love and lose your innocence
There will be liars and
thieves who take from you
Not to undermine the consequence
But you are not what you do
And when you need it most
I have a hundred reasons why I love you
If you weather love and lose your innocence
Just remember - lesson one

one rainy day playlist
I am slowly trying to create the perfect rainy day music playlist, over time it will be changed but soon I will have created the one that fits just right.
I find the rain inspiring as well, a good time to read or write. Also to listen to music and just let your mind wander.
The time of the year makes a difference...Spring rain is most definitely less dreary than the cold winter rain.
Once Summer hits I look forward to that first pouring warm rain.
Until then this is what I have come up with, I was inspired by these songs during our last rainy day.
I created a grooveshark playlist as well go HERE.
1. "Heart Skipped A Beat" by The xx
2. "Boy With A Coin" by Iron & Wine
3. "Keep Breathing" by Ingrid Michaelson
Amazzzzing....
4. "Don't Lose Yourself" by Laura Viers
